“It takes a special teacher to really see who your child is, love them and not only help them grow but pass their passion onto them. If you’re really lucky your child gets a couple of these teachers in their lifetime. Sarah is one of those teachers. She took a wild, music loving, little 5 year old boy who said he really wanted to learn violin and patiently worked with him over the years. She leaned in and pushed when he needed it and pulled back and let him play and be creative when he needed something different. After 7 years that same little boy is still passionate about and loves the violin. This is a true testament to Sarah’s teaching style and grace as an incredible human. I’m confident when Wilson picks up his violin and plays as an adult he will think of Sarah and the impact she made on him fondly.”

"Sarah’s devotion to making beautiful music has been the best motivation for my two girls over the past five years. She is a kind, patient and professional teacher who gives positive constructive critique with specific practice points to improve. Violin is a difficult instrument to learn involving posture, fingering, intonation, music theory and so much more. Sarah has ability to assess students, young and old, in these areas helping them to progress. Growing up learning violin with the Suzuki Method, she has been able to teach that method to my girls which was one of my goals. However, she has a wide knowledge of violin repertoire to offer students at every level and style, taking into account each student’s interests and preferences. Sarah helps students practice for recitals, duets, orchestral performances and auditions knowing what judges are looking for. She offers her students recitals for learning to perform to an audience. My girls have advanced further than I had hoped under her tutelage, earning first chair in an all-state orchestra and playing in a junior orchestra alongside our state philharmonic orchestra. Sarah is a teacher your child will never outgrow!"

"As a non-musician but the mother of several, Sarah Cox has been a such an incredible blessing to our family over the past few years! My two daughters grew in leaps and bounds - not only on violin but viola as well. A third daughter did a few “drop in” lessons with Sarah, and I feel like there was such a stark contrast before the lessons to after that I wish I had taken a video - which is proof that her advice and teaching style can make drastic changes even over the course of one lesson! As a mother I appreciated that she not only led them beautifully through the Suzuki books, but she would help them with audition pieces for orchestras they participated in, or competitions, or any music they needed help on. Her flexibility was so refreshing. The only downside to having lessons with Sarah Cox is that nobody since can compare!"

(parent)As a veteran teacher in our program, Sarah was beloved by both parents and students alike. Her reputation as a quality instructor resulted in the significant growth of our violin studio. Sarah's love of teaching and love of her students is evident to all who know her!

"Hello, this is a recommendation letter for Mrs. Sarah. First of all she is one of the best violinists I have ever heard, and has a lot of patience for students. She is also one of the kindest people I have ever met and likes to make learning violin fun. I have been her student for 7 years, and recommend her to anyone who wants to try violin. It is amazing how she can understand everyone she teaches."

"Sarah has been my teacher for over 5 years. As we worked on pieces she would ask me my thoughts on what the composer was trying to say and if my answers weren’t quite right, she would hint at a better option. She wanted you to figure out the expression and mood the song was suggesting and not just give you all the answers. She not only taught me better technique but guided my learning on the expressive language of music. It has been wonderful learning from you Sarah. Thank you!!"
-Catherine (student, age 16)
"I played violin for about a year before I started taking lessons with Mrs. Cox, and since then, I have rapidly advanced due to her excellent teaching skills. Focusing on techniques and styles, I explored different composers both in Suzuki books and from my audition pieces and orchestra music that she is always willing to help me with! Because of her incredible skills and experience, it has been impossible to find a new teacher to replace her after she left!"

"Sarah was my violin teacher for around five years. She is an amazing teacher and I learned a lot from her. She taught me not only how to play violin, but also that there is a difference between just playing the notes and actual music. Music is more expressive with lots of dynamics and shaping. She taught me different ways of shaping for different pieces, helping me learn how to play real music. Thank you, Sarah for teaching me everything I know now!"
